Who We Are

The African Society for Omics Intelligence and Health Data Science (AFROMIND) is a continental community advancing intelligent, inclusive, and African-owned health data science.

Founded by experts in computational omics, AI ethics, and health policy, we connect researchers, clinicians, data scientists, policymakers, and industry partners.

We believe Africa's genetic diversity and digital growth position the continent to lead AI-driven precision health through initiatives centered on data sovereignty, ethical AI, and equitable access.

Our Mission

To catalyse the responsible development of omics intelligence across Africa, ensuring technology translates into tangible health improvements.
We envision African researchers leading global precision health conversations, with locally governed data ecosystems and culturally relevant AI serving African communities.

Our Vision

Bridging biomedical data and clinical translation to improve diagnosis, screening, and genetic counselling through three pillars:

Advancing Research
Health data science applied to real-world African challenges, generating innovation and jobs.
Developing Skills
Training across sectors with technical and professional AI/data science competencies.
Leading Dialogue
Shaping informed public discourse on Health Data Science and AI through engagement and policy advice.

Our Values

  • Scientific Exchange:
  •  Annual symposia and events to share research and forge partnerships
  • Capacity Development: :
  • Workshops and mentorship equipping early-career researchers with local data analysis skills
  • Policy Engagement:
  • Promoting CARE and FAIR principles to ensure African genomic data remains under African control.

Leadership & Structure
